Surrounded by peat moors and with no light pollution, Lower Godney is a small village on the Somerset Levels 3 miles from Glastonbury 4 miles from Wells. Otters play in the river at the bottom of the garden, peace and quiet with lots of wild birds, especially birds of prey, the Autumnal starling murmuration and star gazing at night.

Thornreed Studio is an award-winning B&B chic barn conversion with 1 bedroom for 2 adults. With retro furniture, a large double bedroom with stone walls & unique ensuite bathroom & wet room. Enjoy breakfast with views overlooking the beautiful wilds of the Somerset Levels.

The barn was originally built in the 1800s. The owners converted Thornreed Studio 10 years ago and it has been featured on a BBC Design series. The large bedroom has its own private ensuite wet room with loo, handbasin, separate shower and bath, towels provided. Bedroom and wet room have stone walls and polished concrete floors with under floor heating a King size bed, DAB radio with bluetooth connection. (bath only available in Winter as the woodburner provides the hot water for bath).

The barn is reverse accommodation and breakfast is taken upstairs in the dining room which has fantastic views across the Somerset Levels to Glastonbury Tor on one side and the Mendip Hills to the other.

The owners, Simon and Jane, also live in the property.

Velvet darkness
by Jo

There is so much to recommend this place but a few highlights are:
Switch out the light at night and total darkness enfolds you... I spent several minutes giggling with delight as I waved my hands in front of my face. We had a cloudy night so there was not even starlight creeping through the windows.
Wallowing in the huge, free standing bath tub whilst appreciating my lovely chap's soapy physique as he showered across the other side of the open-plan wet-room.
The hosts - welcoming and interesting/interested, they offered the perfect balance of sociability and privacy - a rare skill!
The atmosphere - relaxed, arty, eclectic and just a little bit cheeky (right up our street).
Thank you Jane & Simon, your home is an absolute delight!
Silence is golden

The surrounding silence is deafening, the company of the hosts is charming, interesting and insightful. But the best surprise was the shower! Its a big, bold and beautifully crafted space to just shower and dream.....

When we arrived Jane greeted us and we immediately felt welcome, settled, warm and ready to relax. The barn oozed character, effortless style and charm and was the big appeal of wanting to stay here, and we weren't disappointed! Jane and Simon were really fantastic hosts, very friendly and warm and owe them many thanks. Don't change anything! We had a fantastic time as you can probably tell! You made us feel very welcome and comfortable straight away and really were great hosts!

Jane and Simon were amazing weekend hosts, this was actually my second visit because I couldn't wait to go back after my first experience. Their home reflects the creative personalities they are, it is a special place full of their personal touches and treasures from their adventures. There is tons to do within the surrounding villages, Wells has the famous cathedral and a buzzing Saturday market.
