Check Availability

At Skipwith Station, just south of The City of York, there are 3 very well-appointed self-catering railway carriages. The carriages are – the Lady Deramore, the Derwent Flyer and the Derwent Mail and there is a beautifully converted ‘loading bay’ – Blackberry Halt. All are situated on the old Derwent Valley Light Rail line, once known as the Blackberry Line because of all the blackberries on Skipwith Common which is adjacent! The Derwent Flyer and Mail carriages (which can be opened up as one unit) are dog friendly, and The Lady Deramore carriage and Blackberry Halt are pet free.

There are open views and private platform areas for all three carriages and for the Blackberry Halt guests, they can enjoy their own private courtyard with exclusive use of the hot tub. BBQ are available to all. There is a large well - kept garden here with badminton and croquet available and with happy chickens roaming free! The owners have two chocolate Labradors.

There is great walking on Skipwith Common (Natural England) and the sights of The City of York are just half an hour away - the Minster, The Shambles, The National Railway Museum, The City Walls and superb range of independent shops.

All carriages have a/c, oil central heating, linen and towels. All have fully fitted kitchens. A communal laundry is available. The Flyer and Mail have shower rooms, the Lady Deramore and Blackberry Halt have bath rooms. The Mail and Flyer have an interconnecting door, which can be opened up for a party to share both carriages. Blackberry Halt is open plan with a stunning mezzanine reading area and has underfloor heating.

In total the accommodation within the 3 carriages will sleep 8 adults and 6 children – 14 persons. Blackberry Halt is just for 2 adults. An ideal destination to bring a family group!

There is a 3 night minimum stay with prices starting at £190 for that duration in low season.

We have just spent 5 marvelous nights at Skipwith Station staying in the Derwnt Mail. What a lovely place run by its very helpfull owners. The accomodation has everhthing you need and is really well maintained. Its the perfect place to relax and there are a couple of meadows on site where you can use the bbq's and toys and games provided. Our grandson was blown away watching one of the local hens lay an egg 'live' in the planter on our decking.
All in all a great nreak from start to finish

We will be back

Thanks

Beautiful place in beautiful surroundings. We thoroughly recommend the blackberry halt. We stayed here last year, on our anniversary weekend :) It is beautiful - and you can sit in the hot tub until the wee hours of the morning, watching the stars in the sky!
There are also some lovely local shops that are so welcoming, in the nearby villages - happy to help with all occasions and make some wonderful homemade sandwiches!
Lovely place, and I'm sure we will return at some point!

A treat for my 40th birthday, a relaxing few days away from work and the kids. We had a great stay not having to worry about anything, we will be back – maybe with the kids … or maybe not!

An extremely pleasant get away. Close enough to York to enjoy the history, shopping culture and architecture, but far enough to fee ‘away from it all’. The children enjoyed the novelty of being on a train which exceeded expectation in terms of size and facilities. The children loved to feed the chickens and walk the dogs. Highly recommended.

Had such a fantastic stay at Blackberry Halt, it was recommended to us by one of our relatives who stayed earlier in the year, and we will definitely be recommended to others! A beautiful building in beautiful surroundings and a lovely modern interior. Can’t wait to book again and come back. Many thanks, we have loved every minute of this break.

We have really enjoyed our stay, it has been the perfect way to have celebrated our first wedding anniversary. It is clear that a lots of thought and hard work have gone into Blackberry halt and the results are fantastic. This has been a perfect holiday and would highly recommend Skipwith Station to anyone wanting a peaceful break.

We had a lovely weekend away in Blackberry Halt. The accommodation could not have been better, we loved the light mezzanine seating area upstairs and dark, peaceful bedroom downstairs. The sofa was great for curling up on after a relaxing dip in the hot tub. Lizanne and David were really welcoming and v helpful and we are looking forward to a return visit already.

We have just returned from a wonderfully relaxing & comfortable stay in the latest addition to the accommodation at Skipwith Station - the Blackberry Halt. We spent Saturday evening in the warm bubbles of the hot tub lit by tea lights and the stars in the sky. The continental breakfast provided next morning was lovely and we have even returned home with a piece of railway track as a memento of our stay.
We'll be back!!
