A Quirky Micro-Wedding in Cornwall

barnBeing one of the priviledged guests at the wedding of old friends, I was delighted to see they had picked a quirky venue to celebrate. That is the beauty of running QuirkyAccom....it often allows me to mix business with pleasure.

Lower Barns is a unique B&B and wedding venue in Cornwall bursting with bright Latino colour and pizazz. Creative rooms with vibrant artwork are dotted around the pretty garden - interspersed with hot tubs in courtyards, cosy get-together corners and a wedding 'shrine'. Rooms are really unusual, each with its own charm - 2 with the most WOW factor are like Morrocan apartments with hot tubs in private courtyards, but all have lots of vibrant artwork, eye-popping soft furnishings and unique features. Bits of cake and coffee machines in the rooms are thoughtful extras that go down well.

The wedding shrine and lawn were where our bride and groom would have got wed had the weather been a little kinder. Instead we watched their vows in the house itself in a large living area with eclectic decor, plump cushions and the energetic style reflected throughout the whole place.

janieOnce the deed was done, we were outside for some champers, tasty nipples and casual photos while the weather held. And after additional guests had said their farewells we moved on to the saloon style barn for a lovely meal followed by lively dancing around the record decks.

Please note the volumn button is set to keep the noise down, and we did bypass this with our own speaker at some point. This didn't go down very well even in the early evening. You feel like you are in the middle of nowhere here - but apparently there are stern neighbours. With the woops and cheers of wedding celebrations every weekend the joy could turn sour for those hearing it on repeat! The party has to be over strictly at 11.30 and its time to leave after breakfast in the morning at 10.30.

The hosts Mike and Janie feel a little like parents. He the Dad who polices the whole affair and Janie, the mother, warm and thoughtful throughout.

We had Lower Barns exclusively for our group and I believe you can sleep 14-20 guests, with extras coming in for the ceremony if you wish. It is an extremely charming venue for a special day or a Bed and Breakfast stay, and I would recommend it. I think it would be fair to say that they would prefer a fairly restrained crowd so if you want to party into the night this is not for you.

Children and pets are welcome, but make room for Fat Cat. The star of the show!

mabel2 night minimum stay. The Lost Gardens of Heligan and the pretty port town of Mevagissey are nearby. Other accommodations we feature in this lovely area which you could suggest for extra guests are -

Heligan Cottage a short stroll from the gardens

Quayside Cottage in Mevagissey

The Meadows Campsite with adult only vintage caravans
