Barcelona by Boat

katharineFor an alternative accommodation option in Barcelona look no further than the St Katharine B&B Boat. Moored at a peaceful port on the outskirts of the city we greatly enjoyed an evening on the top deck, nibbling on tapas, and being lulled by the clink of boat lines as much as by the wine. The children splashed in the jacuzzi giving us a quiet moment to ourselves. Bliss!

The boat has 5 surprisingly spacious cabins, 2 with shared bathroom, others with ensuites. With WiFi, heating or air-con and plasma screens for watching DVDs so you can settle in like home. An optional breakfast and evening meal can be taken on deck, or in the salon, and there is a fridge stocked with beer, wine and juices - there is no need to leave the boat if you don't wish to. You may be staying with other travellers and Cas, the Dutch owner, as your host or it is possible to hire the whole boat on a self-catering basis, with the galley and BBQ at your disposal, or Cas will appear to give you breakfast, at a time that suits you, and re-stock the drinks fridge.

There is a beach and a couple of restaurants at the port at Port Forum Marina, and a overhead bridge leads you to a mall area with more food outlets, shops and the Metro stop of El Maresme about 10 minutes walk away. But as we had the car we chose to drive along to the bustling beaches next to Port Olimpic de Barcelona. We made use of the paid umbrellas and beds there for an afternoon siesta after a tasty seafood lunch, accompanied by buskers, as we watched people peddle, dog walk and rollerblade by. And had we not already spent a few days in the city centre, I would have opted for the ferry transfer from Port Forum Marina along the coast to the main port of Barcelona on Las Golondrinas. The sea breeze would take the edge off the heat in summer too.

It is therefore possible to make the St Katharine your base for a stay in Barcelona with a difference, or give yourself the perfect antidote to a busy break in the centre by adding a couple of days stay here at the end. Group bookings of up to 10 are welcome so consider this for a Hen Weekend or get-together. And if you really like a party, book your stay while there is a concert or festival on close to the Marina (also called Port Esportiu de Sant Adria).

Deposit required in cash on arrival. Breakfast and jacuzzi at additional cost. Free parking at the port. Cas and Irene - the friendly owners - would be delighted to help you with any enquiry. Please contact them through their listing with us - St Katharine B&B Boat in Barcelona.
