Domed accommodation amoungst breathtaking scenery in Torres del Paine National Park in Patagonia. Add activities + tours.
EcoCamp is in Torres del Paine National Park. In this world of vanishing wilderness, you are invited to explore remote Patagonia with the least ecological impact possible; to trek in virgin beech forests; to admire colossal calving glaciers; to think and wonder about humankind while standing at the foot of the towering granite peaks of the Torres del Paine; to sit in total silence under the Southern Cross; and to share a glass of wine with new friends.
In Patagonia, from Golfo de Penas to the Strait of Magellan, the natives were called Kawesqar or Alacalufes. Sadly nowadays the few remaining pure blood Alacalufes are no more than 10 and live in the remote village of Puerto Eden.
Kawesqar people built their huts on a geodesic shape bending branches and covering the structure with guanaco and sea lion skins. Patagonia EcoCamp design was inspired on the traditional Kawesqar hut resembling an igloo and a dome at the same time. The instinctive engineering ability of the Kawesqar can be easily understood these days. The semi-hemispherical structure of the EcoCamp domes is formed by a number of isosceles triangles that provides uniform distribution of the stress caused by severe wind loads.
There is a choice of soft or hard adventure among the peaks and lakes of Patagonia within the world heritage site of Torres del Paine, expeditions to glaciers and opportunities to visit remoter parts such as Tierra del Fuego.
All the energy used is from 100% natural & renewal sources like water, sun and wind. Waste is recycled when possible and carried out of the wilderness area. Each dome has its own composting device to process waste. EcoCamp has the prestigious ISO 14001 Environmental Management System certification.
Each Suite Dome has a private bathroom, comfortable double or twin beds and is heated by a modern low-emission wood stove. The Standard Domes have shared bathroom facilities. There are round windows in the ceiling to observe the stars of Patagonia before falling asleep. There are 3 core domes where you can eat, relax, go to the bar or small shop.
