So here are the most impressive affordable & unusual places to stay that we visited during our Quirky Tour of the U.K.

To be in our low budget section the accommodation must be offered for under £100 a night for a short break sometime during the year.

1. Garden Room Lodge, Monmouthshire (see photo above)

This lodge sleeps 2 guests and is set on a rural farm for a tranquil stay. Inside there is an open plan living area with double bed and a separate kitchen and dining area.

Great for all year round stays due to cosy underfloor heating, you can relax with a movie on the TV or read that book that you have been meaning to read for ages.

The bathroom facilities can be found next door in a separate hut and include a shower, toilet and sink.

Outside you can relax in the bubbles of your electric hot tub taking in the starry night sky or countryside views.

After a dip, light the fire pit and snuggle up with your loved one whilst toasting marshmallows or reminiscing over your romance to date.

The lodge is a just a short drive to the stunning ruins of Raglan Castle, an ideal place to walk hand in hand with your partner. Alternatively explore the beautiful Wye Valley or Brecon Beacons National Park.

2. Rita's Retreat, Derbyshire 

Delight in a tranquil stay for 2 at this lovely pine cabin near Chesterfield. With a cosy living area, well equipped kitchen, comfortable bedroom and en-suite shower room, it has all you could need for a lovely getaway.

Outside you can enjoy dining al fresco, or simple enjoy the views, warmed by the unique and quirky firepit. 

Set close to the Peak District, this cabin offers an ideal base for exploring this beautiful part of the world.

 3. Prosecco, Cornwall  

Award winning gorgeous wooden cabin sleeps 2 guests for a warm and cosy stay all year round, with sea views near the coastal town of Looe.

The cabin has a well designed interior with large queen size bed, well equipped kitchenette and en-suite shower room.

Outside you can relax on your double hammock, cook on the BBQ or warm yourself around the firepit. Why not order a delicious hamper - choose from Cornish cheese or a yummy cream tea. 

Whilst here you can enjoy a stroll along the South West Coastal Path, a meal at the local pub or a vist to the Cornish fishing town of Polperro.

 4. ICI Salt Van, East Sussex

Gorgeous property ideal for a small family, set in the beautiful High Weald AONB.

Sleeping 3 in a double bed with single bunk above, the carriage has a modern style interior with en-suite shower room and a kettle and fridge for making that morning drink and storing essentials.

Outside you can relax in your private garden area, listening to the sounds of the trains passing by.  

The carriage is set in a great central location, with a choice of pubs within walking distance.

Why not catch a train whilst here and head to one of the nearby coastal towns for a day out. Water sports enthusiasts will also enjoy kayaking along the River Rother.

5. Elham Granary, Kent    

Escape with your loved one to this romantic converted granary, set in the Kent Downs near Elham.

The property has a rustic interior decor, with cosy living area, simple kitchenette facilities, en-suite shower room and a mezzanine level bedroom.

There is a wood burning stove and an electric heater, so you can be sure of staying warm and cosy in all seasons. 

Outside you can cook on the BBQ or enjoy your complimentary breakfast at the al fresco dining table. From here you can take a stroll through the beautiful countryside, or along the Elham Valley Way.

There is a pub within walking distance, ideal for a lazy lunch. 

A little further afield is the historic city of Canterbury as well as the port town of Folkestone. Both offer a great day out for couples looking to explore.

6. Butterbur Cabin, Norfolk      

Set on a gorgeous 22 acre site, this lakeside cabin sleeps up to 3 guests - 2 adults and 1 child and offers a rural retreat for the busyness of life.

Inside there is a comfy double bed, heating and an en-suite shower room. There is a restaurant on site that offers locally produced food, most of which is grown on the site itself.

There is much to do here, with wild lake swimming, a summer time swimming pool and plenty of countryside to explore. 

Whilst here you can visit the market town of Swaffham, the beach and nature reserve at Snettisham or the National Trust property Oxburgh Estate.

7. Esme's Escape, Somerset     

This 1940's themed shepherd's hut tells of a war time love story and is set in the centre of a pretty village near Yeovil.

Inside there is a comfy double bed, kitchenette facilities and an en-suite shower room. Outside you can sink into the warmth of the wood fired hot tub or enjoy dining al fresco in your private garden area.

Locally you can enjoy a meal in the 17th century village coaching inn, explore the Jurassic coastline or take a hike along 28 mile long Liberty Trail path.

8. Caban Bach Eco Pod, Carmarthenshire     

This cabin has been handmade with recycled wood thus offering an eco holiday set within the beautiful Teifi Valley.

Sleeping just 2 guests, it is ideal for a back to basics romantic getaway, where you can enjoy each others company in the privacy of this 40 acre organic farm.

Inside the pod, there is a double bed that converts to a dining table, plus a camping stove and fridge, ideal for simple cooking.

Outside you can relax around the BBQ taking in the countryside views. Your bathroom facilities can be found just a short stroll away. 

Locally you can enjoy a ride on the Teifi Valley railway or see the beautiful coastal waterfall at Aberporth. One dog is welcome to stay with you.

9. Cedar Lodge, Suffolk      

Take a break at this woodland lodge and enjoy a tranquil stay with good self catering facilities near Bury St Edmunds.

Inside the lodge there is a comfy sofa bed, dining table and well equipped kitchen, plus an en-suite shower room.

Outside you can cook up a storm on the BBQ and enjoy dining al fresco with woodland views. 

There are many walks to enjoy in the area, so be sure to pack your trainers!

From a stroll along the famous Lark Valley path to the more intense 4 Church Walk which takes in over 11 miles of woodland, lakes and countryside, there is something for everyone.

After a walk, be sure to stop off at the nearby 16th century coaching inn for a bite to eat and a refreshing drink.

10. Hidden Valley Yurt 1, Monmouthshire   

Take time out from life and reconnect with your loved ones at this streamside yurt in a sunny meadow near Chepstow. 

Inside the yurt there is a double bed, Mongolian day bed and 3 single futons, plus a wood burning fire for cosiness, so ideal for a couple's getaway or family break.

Outside on your large terrace you can enjoy dining al fresco, whilst listening to the sounds of nature around you. This yurt has access to a private kitchen hut and bathroom hut. 

On site you can meet the farm animals or enjoy a game of badminton or boules. Children will love building woodland dens or splashing in the stream.

Set close to Monmouth, Tintern and Raglan there is plenty to see and do in the area.
