Shepherds Hut holidays are a great phenomena that has swept across the UK!
We wanted to experience them for ourselves so we prioritised seeing a range of them when on The Quirky Tour as they are so popular with our visitors.
We found it is by no means that when you have seen one you have seen them all. They are of course unique in location, often in the owners favourite part of their land.
Add quirky and thoughtful details, unique styling and that they vary in size and you will appreciate that these huts have a lot to offer for a rural staycation. Take a look at 10 wonderful and diverse shepherd's huts we visited on our 2023 Quirky Tour.
Esme's Escape, Somerset (see photo above) - cosy and well thoughtout interior with theme, in a village with renowned restaurant, has its own garden, woodfired hot tub and pizza oven.
Hop Hideaway, Worcestershire - spacious, great outlook, private hot tub, seasonal use of the pool, animals to visit, comfortable and cosy with a good kitchen and wood included.
The Woodland Hut at Swallows Nest, East Yorkshire - private and enclosed beside a wood with it's own hammock, firepit and complimentary tasty scones.
Ewe View, Fife - A unique shepherd's hut with an open sided bath house with 2 baths and robes, welcome cake and an open outlook to loch and sheep fields.
There are innovative fold away beds to make extra room in the day.
The Hut Eyam, Derbyshire - in a great spot to explore the Peak District, with a beautiful garden and treehouse terrace for guests.
Ted Shepherd's Hut, Somerset - In a large field with plenty of open space and views towards the Tor at Glastonbury.
This shepherd's hut is kept to a high standard, has a comfy bed and private wood fired hot tub.
Caledonian Hut, Highland - Set beside a rushing stream and a short stroll to a loch where guests have use of paddle boards, kayak and boat to get on the water.
Or cosy up in the wooden interior with hidden cupboards and sheepskin throws after taking a dip in the wood fired hot tub on the deck.
The Red Shed, Pembrokeshire - Whilst staying here you can visit farm animals that neighbour the hut or sit and relax beside the stream.
No firelighting skills needed here as it has an electric fire to keep you cosy.
Visit the quaint local town of Narberth (a foodies hub) or take a short drive to the beaches around Tenby.
Weardale Retreat, County Durham - Impressive scenery in the area and open views across sheep fields from the hut itself.
It is set alone on farmland, with its own outdoor area and private hot tub. The perfect setting for a quiet relaxing getaway.
Beech Shepherds Lodge, Devon - A large hut with lots of space for 2, but also with an add on hut where the kids can sleep in a bunk room (with camera to keep an eye on them).
Nearby Dittisham is a beautiful riverside place to explore or on site enjoy the deck with wood fired hot tub and outdoor seating and the trail around the site.
I hope this blog has inspired you to try a shepherd's hut stay where you can enjoy the peace and tranquillity of their rural locations.
Whether you're looking for a couple's getaway, a family stay or even a dog friendly hut, we have a quirky place to stay for everyone to enjoy.
